Dracula is delaying its first performance yet again. The new musical, which was expected to begin previews tonight, is now aiming for a July 30 start at the Belasco Theatre. This is the fifth time the production has postponed its first preview. The delays are the result of technical issues, according to a production spokesperson.
Dracula features music by Frank Wildhorn and book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. The show, based on Bram Stoker's classic novel, tells of Dracula's lust for new blood and the small band of mortal men and women who must face his overwhelming seduction and mesmerizing supernatural powers.
Tom Hewitt and Melissa Errico headline the cast of the musical, which also features Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chris Hoch, Kelli O'Hara, Bart Shatto, Darren Ritchie, Don Stephenson and Shonn Wiley.
Dracula is scheduled to officially open on August 19.
