Principal casting has been confirmed for the upcoming Broadway musical version of Little Women. In addition to previously announced star Sutton Foster, the tuner will feature Maureen McGovern as Marmee, Megan McGinnis as Beth, Amy McAlexander as Amy, Jenny Powers as Meg, Janet Carroll as Aunt March, Danny Gurwin as Laurie, John Hickok as Professor Baher, Jim Weitzer as John Brooke and Robert Stattel as Mr. Lawrence.
McGovern, who has many solo recordings, has appeared on the Great White Way in The Pirates of Penzance, Nine and Three Penny Opera. McGinnis is best known for starring as Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. McAlexander's theatrical credits include Happy End and Bloomer Girl. Powers' most high-profile theatrical project to date is Bounce. She was also Miss Illinois in 2000. Carroll's theatrical credits include Into the Woods, Lady Windemere's Fan and Elektra. Gurwin has appeared on Broadway in The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Full Monty and Urinetown and was most recently featured on the New York stage in the off-Broadway musical The Thing About Men. Hickok has appeared on Broadway in Our Country's Good, Parade and as Aida's original Zoser. Weitzer was featured on the Great White Way in The Phantom of the Opera. Stattel's numerous Broadway credits include Danton's Death, The Country Wife, King Lear, Sherlock Holmes, Zoya's Apartment, Philadelphia, Here I Come! and The Master Builder.
Little Women, directed by Susan H. Schulman, will play Duke University in North Carolina from October 13 through October 31. It is then scheduled to start previews at Broadway's Virginia Theatre on December 2 and open there on January 20.
