The planned tryout of Billy Elliot - The Musical, which was scheduled to take place in Newcastle in December, has been called off. The tuner will now make its world premiere in the West End, where it will begin performances at the Victoria Palace on March 28 a change from the originally announced March 11 start date.
Billy Elliot tells the tale of a boy torn between his love of dance and his family. The movie was nominated for three Golden Globes, three Oscars and 13 Baftas. The film's major creative forces--director Stephen Daldry, writer Lee Hall and choreographer Peter Darling--are all working on the stage show, which features a score by Elton John.
The Victoria Palace's current tenant, Tonight's The Night, will close on October 9.
