Guy Boyd, Funda Duval, Dashiell Eaves, Annie Golden, Laura Heisler, Brian Hutchison, Kathy Santen and Conrad John Schuck will star in the Playwrights Horizons world premiere of People Be Heard, a comedy with songs. The show, directed by Erica Schmidt and choreographed by Peter Pucci, is scheduled to begin performances on August 31.
Boyd is a Playwrights alum, having appeared in Betty's Summer Vacation at the theater. Duval appeared off-Broadway in Debbie Does Dallas, which was also directed by Schmidt. Eaves' Broadway credits include 1776, The Sound of Music and James Joyce's The Dead. A Broadway veteran, Golden who is headlining the musical Mimi Le Duck! at the Fringe Festival prior to People Be Heard appeared at Playwrights Horizons in the original mounting of Assassins. Heisler has appeared on the New York stage in Tina Howe's Water Music at Ensemble Studio Theater. Hutchison has appeared on Broadway in The Invention of Love. A two-time Jefferson Award winner, Santen appeared on Broadway in Les Misérables. Schuck has appeared on the Great White Way in Annie and Annie Get Your Gun.
People Be Heard concerns a small American town that becomes embroiled in a fierce debate over the teaching of Evolution in the schools, and the single mother a stripper at the local Wiggle Room, played by Duval who is unwittingly drawn into the fray when she is appointed to the local school board. The comedy is by Quincy Long and features original music by Michael Roth.
People Be Heard is scheduled to officially open on September 23.
