The Julie Andrews-helmed production of The Boy Friend, the musical Andrews directed last year at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, will play at Goodspeed Musicals' Opera House from July 15, 2005 to September 24, 2005. Goodspeed will then produce a national tour of the tuner with a planned fall 2005 start in Wilmington, Delaware.
The Boy Friend features book, music and lyrics by Sandy Wilson. Set on the French Riviera in the 1920s, The Boy Friend has young ladies and their "jeunes hommes", mistaken identities and loves lost and found. The score includes "Won't You Charleston With Me?," "All I Want is a Room in Bloomsbury," "I Could Be Happy With You" and "It's Never Too Late to Fall in Love."
The Bay Street mounting of The Boy Friend starred Meredith Patterson as Miss Polly Browne, the role that launched Andrews' Broadway career, Justin Bohon, Andrea Chamberlain, Veanne Cox, Delphi Harrington, Nancy Hess, Byron Jennings, Sean Palmer and Tony Roberts. While no casting has been announced for the Goodspeed production, some of these cast members are expected to return.
After its Goodspeed engagement, this production of The Boy Friend will play in Wilmington, Delaware, Boston, Massachusetts, Greenville, South Carolina, Hershey, Pennsylvania, East Lansing, Michigan, Chicago, Illinois, Green Bay, Wisconsin, St. Paul, Minnesota and more.
