The musical version of The Lord of the Rings is coming to the West End stage a little later than previously expected. The show has shifted its opening from the spring of 2005 to an October 2005 bow.
The Lord of the Rings, which is based on the popular books by J.R.R. Tolkien, will feature music by composer A R Rahman Bombay Dreams and Finland's contemporary folk group Värttinä not Stephen Keeling and Bernd Stromberger, as originally announced and book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna. Matthew Warchus is attached to direct, and his Our House collaborators, designer Rob Howell and choreographer Peter Darling, are also on board.
Although no venue has been announced for the production, Variety reports that producers are eyeing the Dominion Theatre, which currently houses We Will Rock You. We Will Rock You has no scheduled closing date.
