The Pasadena Playhouse has canceled its planned world premiere of the Broadway-bound musical Why Do Fools Fall in Love? which is based on the 1998 film of the same name because the financial backing for the production fell through.
Based on a true story, Why Do Fools Fall in Love? centers on doo-wop legend Frankie Lymon and his three wives, all of whom claimed his estate after his death. The film was written by Tina Andrews; the musical will feature a book by Andrews and music and lyrics by Andrews and Stanley Bennett Clay. Wayne Cilento is expected to both direct and choreograph the tuner if it does surface sometime in the future.
Why Do Fools Fall in Love? was scheduled to run at Pasadena from October 8 through November 14. That slot will now be occupied by a mounting of Side By Side By Sondheim.
