The dates for Mario Cantone's Laugh Whore are being pushed back a week because of scheduling conflicts. The one-man show, directed by Joe Mantello, will now begin performances at the Cort Theatre on October 12 in preparation for an October 24 opening.
Cantone first premiered the show, under the working title An Evening With Mario Cantone, at the American Airlines Theatre in the summer of 2003. Laugh Whore was then scheduled to open at the Music Box Theatre on January 23, 2003, but that mounting was put on hold. The production features original music by Jerry Dixon and lyrics by Cantone and Harold Lubin.
In Laugh Whore Cantone offer his acerbic views on current events, plus his take on celebrities and what it was like growing up as Mario Cantone. The comedy, which is being produced by Showtime, will air on the network in 2005.
