Bert V. Royal's Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, one of the breakout hits of this year's Fringe Festival, will have a run after the festival is over. It is now scheduled to play at its current home, the Soho Playhouse, from September 1 through September 12.
Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead is an unauthorized parody of the Charlie Brown comic characters. In the play, audience members find out what happens when America's favorite blockhead discovers that his beloved beagle has rabies. A missing pen-pal, an abused pianist, a pyromaniac ex-girlfriend, two drunk cheerleaders, a homophobic quarterback, a burned-out Buddhist and a drama-queen sister are all contributing factors to the teen-angst of America's most hapless kid. The show, directed by Susan Lovell, features Michael Gladis, Bridget Barkan, Karen Diconcetto, Tate Ellington, Benjamin Schrader, Jay Sullivan, Melissa Picarello and Stelianie Tekmitchov.
The show has been getting consistently good reviews during its Fringe run which ends tomorrow. Eric Grode is his Broadway.com Review wrote: "Dog Sees God is a very crude, very funny, wonderful piece of writing, and one can only hope audiences will be allowed to experience it long after the Fringe Festival has ended."
