Tony winner Brían F. O'Byrne will join previously announced stars Aunjanue Ellis, Heather Goldenhersh and Cherry Jones in the Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere of John Partick Shanley's Doubt. The show, directed by Doug Hughes, is scheduled to run from November 3, 2004 through January 9, 2005 at City Center Stage I.
O'Byrne won a 2004 Tony Award for his featured performance in Frozen also directed by Hughes. He was previously nominated for Tonys for his featured work in The Beauty Queen of Leenane and lead performance in The Lonesome West. He also appeared on the Great White Way in The Sisters Rosensweig. His other New York theatrical credits include Hapgood, Seconds Out, Grandchild of Kings, Philadelphia, Here I Come, Playboy of the Western World, A Thousand Hours of Love and Bedbound.
Set at a Catholic school in the Bronx,Doubt centers on a nun Jones who grows suspicious when a priest O'Byrne begins taking too much interest in the life of a young male student. Is she being overly protective or not protective enough? And can she work within the system to discover the truth?
Doubt is scheduled to officially open on November 22. The show's design team includes set designer John Lee Beatty, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Pat Collins and sound designer David Van Tieghem who also provides original music for the piece.
