Broadway.com has learned that Sam Rockwell will star in the LAByrinth Theater Company/Public Theater co-production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. The show, directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman, will begin performances at the Public on February 8.
Rockwell's New York stage credits include Face Divided which ran as part of the EST Marathon series, Goose-pimples, Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love and the recent 24 Hour Plays benefit. Rockwell began his feature film career in 1988 but it is only in recent years he has garnered mainstream attention for his work. His notable big screen credits include The Green Mile, Charlie's Angels, Heist, Welcome to Collinwood, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Matchstick Men.
The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is set in the Court of Hope, across the tracks from Purgatory, where the appeal case of God and the Kingdom of Heaven vs. Judas Iscariot Rockwell is underway. It is being billed as a serio-comic re-examination of the plight and fate of the apostle Judas Iscariot.
