"I want the world not to be afraid of the word 'orgasm,'" producer Zahava Israely, a trained clinical psychologist and the wife of the playwright, told Broadway.com. "I want them to talk about the word orgasm like they are talking about their nails or their hair. It gives us pleasure. I want to go on Howard Stern and tell everyone to say 'Have an orgasmic day,' instead of 'Have a nice day.'"
Orgasm is a comedy about the differences between the sexes, exploring what went wrong in God's creation of man and woman. Ed Asner provides the voice of God. "The play is about relationships," Israely said. "It's about the differences between men and women, their hang-ups and their lives. It is also full of humor."
Orgasms opened at the Canon Theater in Los Angeles in December 2003. Last summer, it played at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park, California.
