The musical version of the hit 1992 movie Sister Act will premiere next fall at the Pasadena Playhouse. The tuner, which will be directed by former Disney executive Peter Schneider, is scheduled to run in California from November 3, 2006 through November 26, 2006.
The film Sister Act centers on Deloris Van Cartier a.k.a. Sister Mary Clarence played by Whoopi Goldberg, a singer who joins a convent to hide from the mob. The movie, which grossed over $200 million in its worldwide theatrical release, was written by Joseph Howard and directed by Emile Ardolino.
The musical version will feature a score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater who collaborated on songs for last year's animated Disney film Home on the Range and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner Princesses.
