The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! is a musical about ...musicals! In a comic satire of musical theater genres, one story becomes five musicals, each in the distinctive style of a different master of the form, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim. The show features music by Eric Rockwell, lyrics by Joanne Bogart and a book by Rockwell and Bogart. Craig Fols, Lovette George, Rockwell and Bogart star. Pamela Hunt directs and choreographs.
The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! opened at Dodger Stages on February 10. In his Broadway.com Review of the mounting, William Stevenson wrote: "Besides inviting comparisons to Forbidden Broadway, The Musical of Musicals calls to mind the movie spoofs on The Carol Burnett Show. Like those take-offs, this sparkling show affectionately and wittily captures the spirit of the classics it's parodying. Simply put, The Musical of Musicals is a hoot."
"The producers of Naked Boys Singing! are very sad to see our roommates and friends at The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! closing," Naked Boys producer Tom Smedes said in a statement. "We wish them every success in their upcoming worldwide productions, and have every faith in their show and in their producer, Melanie Herman, to continue onwards."
