The Frank Wildhorn/Leslie Bricusse musical version of Jekyll & Hyde is coming to the big screen, according to Variety.
Jekyll & Hyde, featuring music by Wildhorn and book a lyrics by Bricusse, is the musical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel that highlights the battle of good and evil when a genius doctor's experiment goes awry. Jekyll & Hyde opened on Broadway on April 28, 1997 and closed January 7, 2001. While the Broadway production was not profitable, the show has played all over the world and has reportedly netted a gross of close to $500 million.
Bricusse will adapt his own book for the silver screen. He will also executive produce along with Wildhorn, Bruce Stein co-CEO of Hatchery, a production/marketing group and Sarah Ryan Black Senior VP of the production company Grand Illusions. Jonathan Sanger who is also one of the people behind the movie musical The Producers, Dan Angel, Margaret Loesch and Grand Illusions' Ed Elbert will produce.
