During Barbra's Broadway debut in 1962, when she and Gould played in the musical I Can Get It For You Wholesale.
Married on March 21, 1963. Like butter, the relationship melted. Divorced July 9, 1971.
She at 21, he at 25, Babs and El were young, talented and makin' it when they tied the knot a year after Wholesale. During the union, as his movie starring roles in Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice and MASH made Gould the Adam Sandler of his generation, that funny girl wife of his—with the Cleopatra eyes and the Vidal Sassoon hairdo—would become simply Barbra, the only true superstar born from Broadway. Before their star-spangled run ran its course, the partnership delivered Streisand's only child, son Jason Gould. These days, Babs is happily hitched to that silver fox James Brolin, while Gould with two other divorces to his resume lays low as a single guy.
