Hot on the heels of the news Playhouse 91 is shuttering comes word that off-Broadway will also soon lose the Lamb's Theater. The theater must close by September 30, according to The New York Times.
The Manhattan Initiative, the building's management corporation working on behalf of the Church of the Nazarene, issued an eviction notice to all tenants. The Hampshire Hotels Group will be turning the building into a hotel.
The Lamb's has a 140-seat theater on the ground floor and a 360-seat theater on the third floor. Past shows to be housed at the venue include The Price of Genius, Snoopy, Dames at Sea, Olympus on My Mind, Funny Feet, Godspell, A Room of One's Own, Beau Jest, john & jen, I Do! I Do!, The Countess, The Prince and the Pauper, Nobody Don't Like Yogi, Cam Jansen, Picon Pie, Lazer Vaudeville, One-Man Star Wars Trilogy, Moscow Cats Theatre and The God Committee. A Jew Grows in Brooklyn is scheduled to begin performances at the larger theater there on June 7, but it will have to close by mid-September at the latest.
The Lamb's Theatre Company, which in the past presented works at the spaces in addition to leasing them out, is reportedly looking for a new home.
