"We make this decision with regret and disappointment, but with the reality that the show did not find the audience it needed for us to continue," producer Michael Gill said in a statement.
The shortened version of the musical opened at the Luxor on February 15 to mostly positive reviews. Phil Gallo of Variety wrote of the production: "Slightly trimmed and spritzed to elicit a new bounce, Hairspray arrives in Las Vegas with a spirit true to its original production, but with a newfound emphasis on its integration subplot. What was once a giddy tuner about a plump, teen realizing her dream of appearing on a TV dance show in 1962 Baltimore is now a primer in desegregation."
