The Tony Awards always offer a chance for the nominated musicals to strut their stuff in front of a national audience. This year's telecast will feature numbers from all four Best Musical nominees and the three Best Revival of a Musical nominees.
The cast of Jersey Boys will perform a medley of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Who Loves You." Felicia P. Fields' number "Hell No" will start The Color Purple off and then the show will present its title song. The Drowsy Chaperone is doing "Show Off," a big number for 2006 nominee and former Tony winner Sutton Foster. The cast of The Wedding Singer, led by nominated star Stephen Lynch, will perform the musical's opener, "It's Your Wedding Day."
As for the musical revivals, The Threepenny Opera's Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper will do "The Ballad of the Pimp," The Pajama Game will do "There Once Was a Man" led by nominees Harry Connick, Jr. and Kelli O'Hara into "Hernando's Hideaway" led by nominee Megan Lawrence and the cast of Sweeney Todd will present a specially created selection of pieces.
The 2006 Tony Awards will take place at Radio City Music Hall on June 11. CBS will broadcast the awards live from 8pm to 11pm.
