Well opens with Kron's mother Jayne Houdyshell sitting on a La-Z-Boy recliner in the middle of the stage. As the play goes on to deal with Kron's personal experiences of healing, a comedic coup d'état breaks out. The actors critique the script, her memories conflict with her flashbacks, her mother interrupts with her own opinions, and Kron finds herself in danger of losing control.
Well ran at New York's Public Theater and San Francisco's Geary Theater before hitting Broadway. Well opened at the Longacre Theatre on April 30 to mostly positive reviews and closed there on May 14. In his Broadway.com Review of the piece, William Stevenson wrote: "While Kron's unusual structure or lack thereof makes Well daring, it's her affectionate portrayal of her relationship with her mother that makes the work affecting... Well may not resemble conventional dramas, but it's often hilarious, always clever and ultimately touching."
