Gurney's Post Mortem will open the season, running October 10 through December 9. Set in the not too distant future, Post Mortem tackles the validity of theater as a potent social force in a society rankled by political conservatism and the evangelical leanings of the right. Flea Artistic Director Jim Simpson will helm the mounting.
In January 2007, The Flea welcomes Music Theatre Group for a five-week residency. During that time, the companies will present the musicals Golden Motors with book and lyrics by Wendy S. Walters and music by Derek Bermel and The Rose Project conceived and directed by Sonoko Kawahara, with music by Deirdre Murray and text by Susan Wheeler.
In addition to the productions named above, the Flea will offer Mac Wellman's Two September at its Downstairs space and will collaborate with The Chelsea Art Museum to create a new holiday show Twas the Night Before…, featuring ten-minute plays inspired by the famous holiday poem. Twas the Night Before… will play one-night-only at The Chelsea Art Museum and then come to The Flea for a run December 13 through December 23. The Flea is also offering a Playwrighting Festival, a season of dance works and a new concert series entitled Music Bytes.
