Vogt, who will make his Broadway debut, replaced original star Harvey Fierstein in the Las Vegas production of Hairspray and also recently performed the role at the North Shore Music Theatre. He is best known for his work on the sketch comedy television show Mad TV, which he
appeared on for several seasons, and for his impersonation of Edna Garrett of The Facts of Life on the NBC series The Rerun Show. He recently filmed a role in the upcoming Jessica Simpson film Blonde Ambition and has also been seen on the big screen in Princess Diaries 2, Good Boy and Raising Helen. Regional theater credits include Assassins, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Greater Tuna, The Magic Flute and The Candidate.
Hairspray, the winner of eight 2003 Tony Awards including Best Musical, also currently stars Shannon Durig as Tracy Turnblad, Diana DeGarmo as Penny Pingleton, Ashley Parker Angel as Link Larkin, Tevin Campbell as Seaweed J. Stubbs, Darlene Love as Motormouth Mabelle, Tara Macri as Amber Von Tussle and Isabel Keating as Velma Von Tussle.
Burns, who was last seen on Broadway in Elaine May's After the Night and the Music, is most recognizable for his work on the hit sitcom Dear John. Other TV credits include the series Max Headroom, Bob, The Mommies, Something So Right, Good Morning Miami and Help Me Help You. Other stage credits include Don Juan at the New York Shakespeare Festival, Richard Foreman's Egyptology, True West, Gilelette, Diva and The Scottish Play.
