At the heart of Intríngulis is the story of Alban's family, their move from Ecuador to the United States when Alban was seven and their economic, legal and social battles. In the solo piece, Alban inhabits the many people of his neighborhood, ranging from a novelist to a sniper, a window washer to a minuteman, a vigilante to an illegal immigrant. Interspersed are performances of Latin American protest songs from the 1960s, which speak of the political struggles and the hope for social change which have inspired artists around the world for decades.
LAByrinth Theatre Company is currently presenting Jack Goes Boating, starring co-artistic directors Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Ortiz along with company members Daphne Rubin-Vega and Beth Cole, at Martinson Hall. Performances of Intríngulis will take place around the Jack Goes Boating schedule, including two daytime performances and four on Mondays.
