A pair of 1960s one-act plays by Edward Albee will be presented next season at off Broadway's Cherry Lane Theater, and the playwright may serve as his own director, according to Variety. The American Dream and The Sandbox premiered separately at the Cherry Lane in the early '60s and will be paired as a double bill beginning March 4, 2008, opening on March 18.
The Cherry Lane's season will begin with Katori Hall's Hoodoo Love, which was part of the company's Mentor Project in 2006. The play follows a Mississippi woman who flees the cotton fields to become a blues singer. Previews begin on October 16, with opening night set for October 29.
The Albee one-acts join previously announced upcoming productions of the playwright's Peter and Jerry an expanded version of his classic Zoo Story at Second Stage in the fall and Occupant at Signature Theater in the spring of 2008.
The Cherry Lane will also present its 10th annual Mentor Project season with Michael Weller, Charles Fuller and Jules Feiffer serving as mentors to emerging playwrights.
