Broadway Grosses: Tarzan Swings Away; Disney Has a Happy 4th

Broadway shows attracted strong houses in the week that included July 4, with 17 shows filling their theaters to over 90% of capacity. Included was Disney's Tarzan, which played its final performance on July 8 and filled the Richard Rodgers Theatre to just shy of 99% in its closing week. Disney's other musicals, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins and The Lion King, continued to thrive, each filling their theaters to over 98% and grossing more than $1 million. Broadway audiences also made sure to see Inherit the Wind in its final week: The all-star team of Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy filled the Lyceum Theatre to close to 98% of capacity and grossed over $479,000.
