Jersey Boys, the Tony Award-winning hit musical that tells the story of legendary vocal group The Four Seasons and features their classic hits, is planning a wintertime move to London's Prince Edward Theatre. It will open in the West End on March 18, 2008, following previews beginning February 28. No casting for the London production has been announced.
Jersey Boys follows the rags-to-riches tale of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons as they work their way from the streets of Newark to the heights of stardom, and features such hits as "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," "Oh, What a Night" and many more.
Directed by Des McAnuff, with a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music and lyrics by Bob Crewe and The Four Seasons' own Bob Gaudio, the show opened at New York's August Wilson Theater in November 2005, where it continues to run. It won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical John Lloyd Young, Best Featured Actor in a Musical Christian Hoff and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. McAnuff is on board for the London version of show, as are the Broadway creative team of horeographer Sergio Trujillo, production designer Klara Zieglerova, lighting designer Howell Binkley and costume designer Jess Goldstein.
In addition to the Broadway production, Jersey Boys has been a smash-hit in Los Angeles and San Francisco and will travel to other cities on a national tour in the coming year.
