Janel Moloney, Jeremy Shamos and Zoe Kazan will join the previously announced Lois Smith in the world premiere of Kate Fodor's 100 Saints You Should Know, the first production of the new season at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater. Directed by Ethan McSweeny, the play will begin previews on August 24 and open on September 18, continuing through September 30.
The play centers on Theresa Moloney, who cleans the rectory of the local parish to support her unruly teenage daughter Kazan. When its priest Shamos leaves the church under uncertain circumstances and returns home to his protective mother Smith, Theresa finds herself compelled to pursue him. One eventful night joins them all, forcing a reckoning with the broken memories and shaken faith that divides them, and the discovery of a shared, tenuous common ground.
Moloney, a two-time Emmy Award nominee for playing Donna Moss on The West Wing, is making her New York stage debut in 100 Saints You Should Know. Shamos most recently starred off-Broadway in Gutenberg! The Musical! and appeared at Playwrights Horizons in Miss Witherspoon. Kazan appeared opposite Cynthia Nixon last season in the New Group's production of The Prime of Miss Jane Brodie and will return to the company later in the fall in Things We Want, directed by Ethan Hawke. Rounding out the cast is Will Rogers, who has appeared off-Broadway in Columbinus.
The production features scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Mimi O'Donnell, lighting design by Jane Cox and sound design by Scott O'Brien.
