New Musical A Catered Affair Adds Supporting Players

Five supporting players have been added to the cast of the Broadway-bound musical A Catered Affair. Previews for the new show, which features a book by Harvey Fierstein, score by John Bucchino and direction by John Doyle, are set to begin on March 25, 2008, with opening night on April 17 at a Jujamcyn theater still to be named.

Joining the previously announced stars Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer will be Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, Heather MacRae, Lori Wilner and Kristine Zbornik.

A Catered Affair, set in The Bronx in 1953, reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair. Wopat and Prince play the parents of Kritzer, and Fierstein plays her uncle. The central role of the prospective groom has not been cast.

Hoffman's Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof and Ring Round the Moon, plus the original casts of Into the Woods, Baby, Is There Life After High School? and Falsettos, among others. Klaus most recently appeared in the Broadway revival of Inherit the Wind and as Young Sally'in the New York City Center Encores! presentation of Follies. MacRae's Broadway credits include the original Dr. Charlotte in Falsettos, Coastal Disturbances and the original cast of Hair. Wilner appeared as Golde opposite Fierstein's Tevye in the recent revival of Fiddler on the Roof. Zbornik is a veteran of Forbidden Broadway.

Prior to Broadway, A Catered Affair will inaugurate the 2007-08 Season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, with performances beginning September 20.
