Casting is complete for the upcoming off-Broadway premiere of the musical Walmartopia. The show will begin performances at the Minetta Lane Theatre on August 21, with opening night on September 3. This political satire of big business and eternal smiley faces is written by Catherine Capellaro book and Andrew Rohn music and lyrics and will be directed by Daniel Goldstein.
The cast features Cheryl Freeman (The Civil War, Play On! The Who's Tommy) and Nikki M. James (All Shook Up, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) as mother and daughter and Wal-Mart employees at the center of this lampoon of the corporate giant. Completing the cast will be Sarah Bolt, Bradley Dean, Stephen DeRosa, John Jellison, Brennen Leath, Andrew Polk, Pearl Sun, Scotty Watson as the head of Sam Walton, the late founder of Wal-Mart and Helene Yorke.
