Matt Cavenaugh is the latest addition to the forthcoming Broadway production of the new musical A Catered Affair, joining the previously announced Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Harvey Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer. A Catered Affair will begin previews on March 25, 2008, and open April 17. Although a theater has not been announced, a recent New York Times article reported that the show will play at the Walter Kerr. Prior to Broadway, A Catered Affair will inaugurate the 2007-08 season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. The show features a book by Fierstein and score by John Bucchino and will be directed by John Doyle.
In A Catered Affair, Cavenaugh will create the role of Ralph Halloran, the groom-to-be opposite bride Leslie Kritzer in this musical set in 1953 Bronx centered on a family wedding. The show reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair.
Cavenaugh was recently seen in the dual roles of Joseph Patrick Kennedy, Jr. and Jerry in the Tony-nominated musical Grey Gardens, which ended its Broadway run on July 29. He made his Broadway debut in 2003 in Urban Cowboy and starred in the national tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie. His regional credits include 2 Lives, Palm Beach, Carousel, Princesses, Anything Goes and Footloose.
