Broadway Grosses: Grease Is the Word

Grease, which has been in the limelight since the debut of the reality casting series You're the One That I Want, celebrated its opening week by packing the Brooks Atkinson Theatre past capacity and grossing close to $819,000. Spring Awakening continued to top the charts in capacity, filling the Eugene O'Neill home of the last revival of Grease to 101.31%, grossing more than $788,000. Meanwhile, Broadway said good-bye to Vanessa Redgrave and The Year of Magical Thinking, which played its final performance on August 25—and left Broadway without a single play until the fall season begins.
