New York Theatre Workshop has announced that due to scheduling conflicts, the company's forthcoming production of Molière's The Misanthrope will begin performances on September 14, one day later than the originally announced start date. Opening night for the play, being performed in a version by Tony Harrison and directed by Ivo van Hove, remains September 24.
NYTW also announced that also due to scheduling conflicts Amelia Campbell has replaced Florencia Lozano in the role of Arsinoe. Campbell's Broadway credits include Waiting in the Wings, The Herbal Bed, Translations, A Small Family Business and Our Country's Good.
As with his award-winning production of Hedda Gabler, Van Hove seeks to revitalize The Misanthrope with a fresh, modern perspective, viewing Molière's classic comedy through the lens of our society in which the traditional social fabric has frayed and virtual relationships can be deleted with the push of a button.
