The previously-reported Broadway premiere of the West End hit The 39 Steps will open at Broadway's American Airlines Theatre on January 10, 2008. Part of the Roundabout Theatre season, the limited engagement will end on March 16.
Before premiering on the Great White Way, the Olivier Award-winning comedy will have its U.S. premiere at Boston's Huntington Theatre Company from September 14 to October 14, 2007.
Four actors playing 150 roles perform the show, based on John Buchanan's novel and the 1935 Alfred Hitchock film thriller. It contains every single scene from the film, including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the death-defying finale set in the London Palladium. Adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, it won the award for Best New Comedy at the 2007 Laurence Olivier Awards.
The 39 Steps starts performances on December 28, 2007.
