Broadway Grosses: Summer Simmers Down

Broadway took a back-to-school hit this past week, with many shows struggling to fill their houses. Only two musicals, perennial powerhouses Wicked and Jersey Boys, filled their theaters to more than 90% of capacity, with many shows hovering in the 50% to 70% range. Grease and Spring Awakening managed to do fairly well in this tough week, hovering near 90% of capacity and grossing more than $788,000 and $657,000, respectively. For the second week, there was not a single play on Broadway a dozen are on tap before Christmas, and none of fall's new shows are in previews yet.
