Duran Duran, the Grammy-winning British pop group that has sold more than 85 million records, will play a two-week gig at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Band members Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor will rock the intimate Broadway venue from November 1 through November 12 to celebrate the November 13 release of their new buzzed-about album Red Carpet Massacre on Epic Records.
The two-hour concert, presented nine times over two weeks, will feature songs from the new album as well as hits from the band's 26 years on the top of the charts including "Rio," "Save a Prayer," "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Ordinary World." The band, which will rehearse in London starting in early October, is promising a brand new stage show with theatrical production values for the engagement.
In a statement, lead singer LeBon said: "We have made an album that we are all really proud of and we wanted to present it in a very unique way. Staging a run on Broadway is something that we've often talked about over the years-but the time has never seemed right until now." Bassist John Taylor added: "We agreed we would try to open on Broadway while we were still making the record and have been planning how we're going to stage it for the past few months… Broadway just feels like the perfect place to launch this album."
The new David Mamet political comedy November will follow the band into the Barrymore Theatre, with performances set to start December 20.
