World Premiere of The Brothers Size to Play the Public

The world premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's The Brothers Size, directed by Tea Alagic, will play at the Public Theater from October 23 through December 23. Opening night is set for November 6. The piece was the hit of the Public's 2007 Under the Radar Festival earlier this year.

Playing fast and loose with West African myths, The Brothers Size brings contemporary rhythms together with traditions of ceremonial presentation to tell the modern-day story of the Size brothers—Ogun, an auto mechanic, and Oshoosi, a recent parolee. The drama asks its audience to be at once the community, the witness and the judge.

"Tarell Alvin McCraney is one of the most exciting and distinctive young playwrights to have emerged in many years," said Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis in a statement about the scribe.

The Brothers Size features Brian Tyree Henry as Oshoosi, Gilbert Owuor as Ogun, and Elliot Villar as Elegba. Percussion and additional composition is provided by Jonathan M. Pratt with original composition by Vincent Oliveri.
