New York Theatre Workshop has rescheduled its opening night for Beckett Shorts, an evening of four one-act plays written by Samuel Beckett and starring Mikhail Baryshnikov, to December 18. The plays had been scheduled to open on December 16, which is now opening night of The Homecoming on Broadway a shift that occurred after the settlement of the stagehands strike.
Performances of Beckett Shorts will begin as scheduled on December 5 at NYTW's off-Broadway home, directed by JoAnne Akalaitis, with original music by Philip Glass.
In addition to Baryshnikov, the cast of Beckett Shorts includes Bill Camp, Karen Kandel and David Neumann. Internationally renowned sculptor and architect Alexander Brodsky has joined the creative team in his first theatrical effort as set designer. The design team also includes Kaye Voyce costumes, Jennifer Tipton lighting, Darron L. West sound and Mirit Tal video.
The bill of Beckett Shorts includes "Act Without Words I," "Act Without Words II," "Eh Joe" and "Rough for Theatre I."
