Composer Mark Mulcahy will join the cast of his own show, The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island Or, the Friends of Dr. Rushower, for five performances beginning February 21 at the Vineyard Theatre. He will play the role of George Klatter, originated by Stephen Lee Anderson, who is taking a leave of absence due to a family emergency but is expected to return on February 26. The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island opened on February 12 and has extended its off-Broadway run through March 18, directed by Bob McGrath.
Mulcahy, a solo artist and former lead singer of the indie-rock band Miracle Legion, co-created The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island with librettist and cartoonist Ben Katchor. The musical features Katchor's drawings as an animated background for a story set in and around Manhattan and on a tropical island of exploited factory workers.
The cast of The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island also includes Peter Friedman, Bobby Steggert, Tom Riis Farrell, Jody Flader, Matt Pearson and Will Swenson.
