Broadway Grosses: Easter Weekend Helps Box Offices

The week ending in the Easter holiday was a strong one for Broadway. Ten shows filled their theaters to 100% capacity or more, with six shows grossing over $1 million. Among the top shows were long-running hits Mamma Mia!, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent scheduled to close on June 1 and Jersey Boys, along with newbies The Little Mermaid and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Perennial champ Wicked, which came in at its usual 100.00%, was pushed out of the top five for capacity because it doesn't sell standing room tickets, but it topped the grosses chart at a whopping $1.5 million. Passing Strange saw a grand improvement, filling the Belasco Theatre to 78.74% and grossing $313,560, an increase of almost 23% and $88,000 from the previous week.
