From the "when it rains, it pours" department: Nick Blaemire and Andrew C. Call are currently appearing in the ensemble of the new musical Cry-Baby, which began previews at Broadway's Marquis Theatre on March 15 and is scheduled to open on April 24. Blaemire is also the composer of the new musical Glory Days, which begins previews at Circle in the Square on April 22 and will open on May 6—and Call is one of the musical's four stars. So, what's their status with Cry-Baby?
According to a production spokesperson, Blaemire "is currently not scheduled to miss any time from Cry-Baby. Andrew Call is scheduled to give his final performance with Cry-Baby on April 17. He is planning on a three-month leave of absence, so he will return to the show in July."
When the two young actors joined the cast of Cry-Baby, they had no idea that their small-scale musical Glory Days, a hit at the Signature Theatre of Virginia, would be the final entry in Broadway's spring season. So they'll have two openings to celebrate, though Call will be in previews with his second show.
