L.A.'s ASCAP Foundation/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop will present a musical adaptation of 2001's quirky Jake Gyllenhaal flick Bubble Boy, according to Variety. Composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz is set to helm the workshop, which showcases and critiques works by up-and-coming musical theater writers. Performances will be held at the Disney Feature Animation Studio Lot in Burbank on April 9 and April 28.
Bubble Boy, based on the film starring Gyllenhaal and Swoosie Kurtz, chronicles the story of Jimmy, a young man born without an immune system who is forced to live in a plastic bubble. When Jimmy discovers his true love is to wed another, he builds a portable bubble suit and bounces off cross country to stop the wedding. The musical adaptation features a score by Cinco Paul and a book by Ken Daurio and Paul.
The show, as well as three additional workshop pieces, are being presented as part of ASCAP's “I Create Music Week.”
