Broadway Grosses: Numbers Drop After Spring Break

The kids have gone back to school, and Broadway box offices experienced a big dip from the previous week. Only perennial chart toppers Jersey Boys, Wicked and The Lion King did sellout business and topped $1 million in grosses. Two starry revivals, Gypsy and South Pacific, were up from the previous week, fueled in part by overwhelmingly positive reviews. Roundabout Theater Company's production of The 39 Steps ended its successful run at the American Airlines Theatre and will reopen on May 8 at the Cort Theatre. Meanwhile, at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre, the revival of The Country Girl starring Morgan Freeman, Frances McDormand and Peter Gallagher had its first three previews.
