If anybody's wondering whether 13 Tony nominations helps at the box office, the answer is yes: Five days after picking up the most 2008 Tony nods, In the Heights saw its grosses jump by almost $125,000, with an increase in capacity from 70.25% to 85.12% at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Passing Strange had a more modest Tony bump of about $50,000 after receiving seven nominations, and Cry-Baby, a surprise Best Musical nominee, went up by almost $80,000 for the week. Fueled by the exit of leading players Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele on May 18, Spring Awakening shot up more than $150,000 for the week as fans rushed to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre to say good-bye. Among plays, Patrick Stewart's Macbeth moved into the top five for capacity as it neared its closing date at the Lyceum Theatre.
