Xanadu is apparently headed for London in the spring of 2009. British producers David Ian known to American audiences for the reality series You're the One That I Want and John Gore will join Broadway producers Robert Ahrens, Tara Smith, Brian Swibel, Cari Smulyan, Dale Smith and Dan Vickery in bringing the musical to the West End. A London theater and casting are not yet set.
Xanadu tells the story about a magical muse named Kira who comes to earth in 1980 disguised in roller skates, leg warmers and an Australian accent to inspire what the gods call truly great work and discover the meaning of the universe's greatest secret: the gift of Xanadu. Kira meets the handsome artist Sonny, who needs her help in achieving his greatest dream.
Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa star in the Broadway production of Xanadu, now in its second year at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Directed by Christopher Ashley, the show has been nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
