The Broadway revival of A Chorus Line has announced a closing date of August 17 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. The show will have played 18 previews and 759 regular performances upon closing, directed by its original Tony Award winning co-choreographer Bob Avian.
Following a six-week run at San Francisco's Curran Theatre, A Chorus Line returned to Broadway for the first time since its original run on September 18, 2006, and opened on October 5. A national tour just opened at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, its second stop on a 29-city tour scheduled thorough June 2009.
"For the last two years, audiences have been able to rediscover A Chorus Line, but more important a whole new generation has been introduced to this great American musical," producer John Breglio said in a statement. Conceived and originally choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, with a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban, A Chorus Line returned to Broadway with its original choreography re-staged by Baayork Lee.
Dancing with the Stars finalist Mario Lopez joined A Chorus Line on April 15 as Zach and led the cast in a performance on the most recent season of the hit ABC show. He took a hiatus beginning May 11 but returned on June 3 and will remain with the show through closing night. Among the original revival cast members who are still in the company are Charlotte d'Amboise as Cassie and Deirdre Goodwin as Sheila.
