Susan Sullivan, best known for her role in the long-running TV drama Falcon Crest, will lead the cast in Primary Stages' forthcoming production of A.R. Gurney's Buffalo Gal. The comedy will begin performances on July 22 at 59E59 Theaters and open on August 5, directed by Mark Lamos. The limited off-Broadway run is scheduled to continue through August 30.
The six-member cast also features Mark Blum Twelve Angry Men as Dan, Carmen M. Herlihy The Piano Teacher as Debbie, Jennifer Regan Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? as Jackie, James Waterston A Perfect Couple as Roy and Dathan B. Williams Show Boat as James.
Buffalo Gal centers around Amanda Sullivan, a once successful television personality whose star is now fading. Life imitates art as she returns to her hometown of Buffalo to star in Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard. Just as she is connecting with her roots—both on stage and off—she is called back to Hollywood for a role that could recharge her career. Will her love of theater be enough to keep her in Buffalo?
Gurney, the author of Love Letters and The Dining Room, has had several comedies produced at Primary Stages, including The Fourth Wall which starred Sullivan, Strictly Academic and the Outer Critics Circle Award-winning Indian Blood.
The creative team for Buffalo Gal includes Andrew Jackness set, Candice Donnelly costumes, Mary Louise Geiger lights, and John Gromada original music and sound design.
