9 to 5 Headed for Broadway's Marquis Theatre; Complete Cast Announced

The musical adaptation of 9 to 5 is headed for Broadway's Marquis Theatre. After a run at L.A.'s Ahmanson Theatre from September 3 to October 19 opening on September 20, the new show, which features a book by screenwriter Patricia Resnick and music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, who starred in the 1980 hit film, will begin previews on March 24, 2009. Opening night has been set for April 23, directed by Joe Mantello and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler.

As previously announced, 9 to 5: The Musical stars Allison Janney as Violet a role created by Lily Tomlin, Stephanie J. Block as Judy created by Jane Fonda, Megan Hilty in the Parton role of Dorelee and Marc Kudisch as their evil boss, Franklin Hart originally played by Dabney Coleman.

The 30-member cast includes plenty of recognizable Broadway performers: Andy Karl, Kathy Fitzgerald, Ioana Alfonso, Timothy Anderson, Jennifer Balagna, Justin Bohon, Paul Castree, Daniel Cooney, Jeremy Davis, Gaelen Gilliland, Autumn Guzzardi, Ann Harada, Lisa Howard, Van Hughes, Kevin Kern, Brendan King, Michael X. Martin, Michael Mindlin, Karen Murphy, Mark Myars, Jessica Lea Patty, Charlie Pollock, Tory Ross, Wayne Schroder, Maia Nkenge Wilson and Brandi Wooten.

The storyline of the musical follows that of the film. When pushed to the boiling point by their boss, Franklin Hart Jr. Kudisch, super-efficient office manager Violet Newstead Janney, frazzled divorcee Judy Bernly Block and sexy executive secretary Doralee Rhodes Hilty hatch a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot, which quickly spins wildly and hilariously out of control."

9 to 5 will include over 20 new songs by Parton, plus "Backwoods Barbie," the hit tune featured on her recently released recording of the same name.

The production will feature scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer and sound design by John Shivers, with musical supervision by Stephen Oremus. The musical is being produced by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment for Showtime Networks.
