The Broadway-bound revival of Lerner & Loewe's Brigadoon has been postponed for the coming season. Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford, the production had been aiming for a Spring 2009 opening, but has been delayed for now "due to the lack of an appropriate Broadway theater," according to a press statement. A pre-Broadway engagement in Boston, announced for October 21 through November 16 at the Colonial Theatre, has also been cancelled.
One of Broadway's most fabled musicals, Brigadoon is the story of two disillusioned Americans on vacation in Scotland who wander into a village that comes alive every 100 years for only one day. The show features an original book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The new production was to feature a revised book by John Guare Six Degrees of Separation, The House of Blue Leaves, Sweet Smell of Success. No casting had been announced.
