One week before its scheduled opening, Second Stage Theatre Uptown's production of Rajiv Joseph's Animals Out of Paper has extended one week, through August 24. The world premiere play, directed by Giovanna Sardelli, is the second production in this summer's Uptown Series, a program devoted to providing exposure for a new generation of theater artists. Currently in previews, Animals Out of Paper will open on August 4 at Second Stage's McGinn/Cazale Theatre on the Upper West Side.
Animals Out of Paper features Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kellie Overbey and Jeremy Shamos. Described as a drama about finding the perfect fold, the play centers on a world renowned origami artist who opens her studio to a teenage prodigy and his schoolteacher, and finds that life and love can't be neatly arranged.
Joseph's previous play, All This Intimacy was produced by Second Stage Theatre Uptown during its 2006 summer season. Animals Out of Paper feartures scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Amy Clark, lighting design by Josh Bradford and sound design by Bart Fasbender.
