Brenda Braxton will return to the Ambassador Theatre on August 12 to play Velma Kelly in Chicago. This will mark Braxton's eighth stint in the role, since first joining the show in 2003. She replaces Nancy Lemenager in the role of the merry murderess.
Braxton received a 1995 Best Featured Actress Tony nomination for her performance in Smokey Joe's Cafe. Her other Broadway credits include Dreamgirls, Cats, Legs Diamond and Jelly's Last Jam.
In addition to Braxton, the current cast of Broadway's Chicago includes Michelle DeJean as Roxie Hart, Tom Wopat as Billy Flynn, Carol Woods as Matron 'Mama' Morton, Kevin Chamberlin as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
